A handwritten letter from an elderly Mr. Sharma, asking a lawyer to hire him:
“My son-in-law often complains, but in 20 years he never starved me and supported me. My daughter is lazy and has taken the entire burden upon herself. I have lived a long life; I know who is good and who is not. He doesn’t have to take a loan from me, but I can’t die without leaving him something.” Family vacation packages
I stood there motionless, tears welling in my eyes, though I didn’t understand why.
It turned out he wasn’t poor at all. The plot of land was his ancestral property, which he kept hidden and never spoke of. The savings account contained money he’d accumulated throughout his life from pensions and government benefits, with interest, untouched by a single rupee.
They decided to give it to me – the one who once considered himself a “freeloader” and even wanted him to leave the house.
That evening I sat alone at his altar, lighting incense. Looking at his smiling portrait, I whispered:
“I was wrong, Dad.”
You have lived your entire life peacefully, never allowing anyone to be in your debt—not even those you once considered a burden.
