Itchy Head? These Are the Main Causes

What should I do?

Consult a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis.
Take oral antifungal treatment and use special shampoos.
Continue treatment, even if the symptoms improve, to prevent recurrence.
Chemical reactions: Be careful with hair dye.
Hair dye can cause allergic reactions: itching, redness, a burning sensation, and even blisters. A common culprit is paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a common ingredient in hair dye.

How do you prevent reactions?

Always perform an allergy test before applying.
Choose natural or ammonia-free hair dye if you have a sensitive scalp. Sunburn: Your scalp isn’t spared.

The sun can burn your scalp, especially if you have thinning hair or are going bald. Sunburn causes itching, redness, and sometimes even flaking.

Protect yourself!

Wear a hat or cap in direct sunlight.
Use a sunscreen spray for your scalp if necessary.
Moisturize your skin with aloe vera if you’re sunburned.
Stress and anxiety: nervous itching.
Stress can cause itching by releasing inflammatory substances. This is called emotional itching.

What can I do to calm down?

Practice relaxation techniques: meditation, yoga, deep breathing.
Use gentle, moisturizing products for your scalp.
Consult a professional if the itching becomes unmanageable.
Lice: Always a problem.
Even adults can get lice, especially when in contact with children. The itching is particularly intense behind the ears and on the neck.
